It is important to understand the function of each type of water valve in order to select the valve best suited for specific application needs based on performance requirements and location. Furthermore, proper installation, operation and preventive maintenance will provide reduced occurrence of inoperable valves which results in significant money savings and less system shutdown time. Training is essential for all persons involved from designers in the early planning stages to operators and maintenance crew members in the field. This presentation will teach how to identify various types of valves and how each functions, as well as proper operation and maintenance of each. We will demonstrate different valves such as Resilient Seated Gate Valves, Double Disk Gate Valves, OS&Y Valves Butterfly Valves, Check Valves Plug Valves, etc. We will also review steps for an annual routine maintenance and valve exercising program to help identify problems before and emergency issue exists.
